Martine MacDonald
Artist Statement
My oil paintings focus on the figure, often using myself as the model. However, my work should not be seen as self-portraits. Rather, I hope to capture universal themes found in the real and mystical world of women. I am inspired by literature, mythology, and objects and artifacts found in nature. Influenced by the concept of home and identity, I often use recurring images of birds and nests for their symbolic connotations.
